Van Gerwen takes top spot with convincing victory

Michael van Gerwen returned to the top of the Unibet Premier League with a solid 8-2 victory over Rob Cross at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff this evening. Cross started off the match with two 15 dart winning legs that included an 80 finish. 'Voltage' then went on to miss a dart at double top in the third leg and from there Van Gerwen took control by reeling off eight straight legs in 13, 15, 14, 18, 12, 14, 12 and 13 darts, hitting the only 180 of the match and taking out finishes of 90, 85 and 75 as he averaged 107.87; Cross averaged 94.49

Cross stays top with another Premier League win

Rob Cross averaged 102.03 as he beat Peter Wright 8-5 this evening on night eleven of the 2019 Unibet Premier League at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool. Cross took out finishes of 140 and 105 as both players hit four 180s. Winning legs of 13, 15, 14, 13, 15, 12, 19 and 11 darts secured the victory. Wright took out finishes of 106 and 104 as he averaged 100.28 with winning legs of 11, 14, 14, 12 and 18 darts. The win leaves Cross a point ahead of Michael van Gerwen at the top of the table going into their clash in Cardiff next week.

Clayton wins third PDC title

Jonny Clayton picked up his third PDC title as he beat Gabriel Clemens 8-4 in the final of Players Championship 10 at the Metrodome in Barnsley this afternoon. On theway to victory Clayton beat Nathan Rafferty 6-5, Zoran Lerchbacher 6-2, Vincent van dr Voort 6-5, Marko Kantele 6-2, Jermaine Wattimena 6-5 and Ian White 7-2. Rob Cross withdrew from thie event through illness.

Cross crashes out against De Sousa in Barnsley

Having beaten George Killington 6-1 in the opening round, Rob Cross crashed out to Jose de Sousa in the last 64 of Players Championship 9 at the Metrodome in Barnsley this afternoon. It was one of Cross' poorest displays of the year as he averaged 87.58. De Sousa took out finishes of 138 and 72, averaged 94.96, with winning legs of 18, 11, 12, 17, 19 and 17 darts as both players hit two 180s. In Cross' win against Killington he took out finishes of 107 and 74 and hit two 180s as he averaged 99.17, winning legs in 17, 15, 15, 14, 15 and 14 darts. De Sousa went on to make the quarter-finals. James Wade won the title, beating Michael Smith 8-2 in the final.

Cross goes top as he beats Gurney in Belfast

Rob Cross continued his decent Unibet Premier League form with an 8-4 win against Daryl Gurney at the SSE Arena in Belfast this evening. Having lost out to the Northern Irishman just four days earlier in Germany 'Voltage' was in no mood to slip to another defeat as he averaged 104.71, hitting three maximums and finishes of 124, 117 and 100. The win included back-to-back scores of 177 as the Hastings thrower won legs in 12, 13, 13, 12, 13, 14, 14 and 12 darts. Gurney averaged 95.96, hitting one 180 and taking out a 112 finish as he won legs in 15, 20, 15 and 17 darts.

Gurney beats Cross on the way to winning his first European Tour title

Daryl Gurney came from 2-0 down to beat Rob Cross 6-2 in the third round of the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim this afternoon. Cross won the opening two legs in 15 and 16 darts then Gurney rattled back with legs of 16, 14, 14, 20, 13 and 15 darts to move into the quarter-finals. 'Superchin' averaged 94.97, Cross hit the only 180 of the match and averaged 92.90; Gurney went on to beat Stephen Bunting 6-5, Adrian Lewis 7-5 and Ricky Evans 8-6 to claim his first European Tour title.

Cross beats Meulenkamp in Hildesheim

Rob Cross made it through to the third round of the German Darts Championship in Hildesheim with a 6-4 win against Ron Meulenkamp this evening. The Hastings thrower averaged 99.96 as he hit two 180s, winning legs in 18, 16, 13, 13, 13 and 14 darts, Meulenkamp hit one 180, took out a 160 finish and averaged 97.66 as he won legs in 14, 15, 15 and 16 darts.

Voltage gets back to winning ways with victory against De Zwaan

Rob Cross got his Unibet Premier League campaign back on track with a 7-4 win against Jeffrey de Zwaan at the Rotterdam Ahoy this evening. De Zwaan got off to a great start as he took the opening two legs in 12 and 18 darts with finishes of 84 and 151. Cross got on the board with a 14 darter then the 'Black Cobra' went 3-1 up with a second 12 darter, taking out 64. 'Voltage' then sparked into life, winning the next five legs in 18, 17, 18, 12 and 16 darts to silence the loud Dutch crowd. Those six legs included six 180s and finishes of 124 and 89. De Zwaan won the tenth leg in 14 darts by taking out 50 then Cross took the next in 17 darts to claim victory. Cross hit a total of eight 180s and averaged 94.46. De Zwaan hit three 180s and averaged 96.93

Suljovic wins five legs on the bounce to defeat Cross in Rotterdam

Mensur Suljovic fought back from 5-1 down to beat Rob Cross 7-5 on night eight of the Unibet Premier League at the Rotterdam Ahoy this evening. Cross got off to a bright start to lead 4-0 with legs of 16, 13, 14 and 17 darts, taking out finishes of 74 and 89 in the last of those two legs. Suljovic then won the next in 14 darts. Back came Cross with a 13 darter only for Suljovic to storm to victory with legs of 17, 14, 17, 18, 18 and 15 darts, taking out finishes of 136, 120 and 76. Both players hit one 180 with Cross averaging 92.83; Suljovic averaged 88.71

MvG takes out the big fish on the way to winning euro title in Leverkusen.

Michael van Gerwen defeated Rob Cross 8-6 in the final of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen this evening. The world number one fought back from 4-3 to win the title, hitting three 180s, taking out finishes of 170, 82 and 78 as he won legs in 12, 14, 13, 17, 14, 11, 13 and 18 darts. Cross hit five 180s, took out a 95 finish and averaged 100.27 as he won legs in 15, 12, 10, 14, 17 and 14 darts.

Cross defeats Wright in European Darts Open last four

Rob Cross beat Peter Wright 7-5 in the semi-finals of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen this evening with a 104.24 average. The Hastings man hit four 180s, took out finishes of 160 and 124, winning legs in 15, 10, 13, 14, 12, 14 and 12 darts. Wright hit one 180 in the match, took out finishes of 117 and 101, averaging 99.33 with winning legs of 17, 15, 15, 19 and 17 darts. In the other semi-final Michael van Gerwen had a nine dart leg in his victory over Mensur Suljovic, scoring 180, 174 (T20, T19, T19) and checking out on 147 (T19, bull, D20).

Cross makes the semis in Leverkusen with win against Pipe

Rob Cross came from 2-1 down to beat Justin Pipe 6-2 in the quarter-finals of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen, Germany this evening. Cross hit two 180s and took out a 70 finish as he averaged 101.63 with winning legs of 16, 13, 15, 18, 13 and 15 darts. Pipe averaged 92.55 as he hit one 180, took out finishes of 170 and 88, winning legs in 14 and 12 darts.

Voltage wins 300th PDC Pro Tour match in style against Clayton

Rob Cross came from 4-1 down to beat Jonny Clayton 6-4 and claim his 300th PDC Pro Tour win in the third round of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen this afternoon. The world number two hit three 180s, took out finishes of 140, 127, 123, 112 and 87 as he averaged 105.74 with winning legs of 15, 15, 15, 11, 15 and 12 darts. Clayton hit two 180s, took out finishes of 104 and 84 as avergaed 100.45 with winning legs of 15, 14, 15 and 14 darts.

Cross takes out a 130 finish as he defeats Beaton in Leverkusen

Rob Cross is through to the last sixteen of the European Darts Open in Leverkusen, Germany with a 6-3 win against Steve Beaton. Cross hit six 180s in the match including one in each of the opening five legs as he recorded a 101.37 average. The win included a 130 checkout with winning legs of 14, 18, 13, 12, 14 and 16 darts. Beaton hit two 180s, took out a 78 finish and averaged 95.83 as he won legs in 16, 14 and 14 darts.

Voltage continues great Premier League form as he beats Price 

Rob Cross picked up his fifth win of the 2019 Unibet Premier League with a 7-4 result and 104.33 average against Gerwyn Price at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Berlin tonight. Both players hit four 180s with 'Voltage' winning legs in 13, 16, 13, 15, 16 and 15 darts. Price took out an 86 finish and averaged 97.84 as he won legs in 12, 14, 13 and 14 darts. The win sees Cross move above Michael van Gerwen at the top of the table as the world number one suffered a defeat against Daryl Gurney.

Cross withdraws from Players Championship event

Rob Cross withdrew from today's Players Championship 8 being held at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan as he felt a bit under the weather. He will rest up and be back for the next Unibet Premier League action in Berlin on Thursday where he takes on Gerwyn Price.

Cross defeats Durrant but then loses out to Chizzy for third time this year

Rob Cross started Players Championship 7 at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan this afternoon in great form as he averaged 107.28 in a 6-1 beating of Eddie Dootson. Another 6-1 win followed, this time with a 100.98 average against Luke Woodhouse. In the third round Cross beat three-time BDO World Champion Glen Durrant 6-3, averaging 96.20 but then came unstuck against Dave Chisnall in the last sixteen. Chizzy was in top form as he averaged 108.38 in a 6-3 win that saw Cross hit six 180s and average 100.90. Chisnall went on to beat Daryl Gurney 8-6 in the final.

Cross impresses again in another Premier League victory

Rob Cross averaged 101.21 as he continued his good form with a 7-3 win against Raymond van Barneveld on night six of the Unibet Premier League at the Motorpoint Arena in Nottingham this evening. 'Voltage' scored well as he picked up his fourth win of the campaign, hitting three 180s and taking out finishes of 129 and 81 as he won legs in 12, 13, 16, 12, 14, 15 and 18 darts. 'Barney' hit two 180s, took out an 88 finish and averaged 91.22 with winning legs of 15, 14 and 18 darts.

Cross top class as he beats Michael Smith in Aberdeen

Rob Cross was in great form as he beat Michael Smith 7-3 on night five of the 2019 Unibet Premier League at the BHGE Arena in Aberdeen this evening. The Sussex superstar hit three 180s, took out finishes of 164 (T18, T20, bull), 87 and 81 as he averaged 103.96, winning legs in 17, 14, 12, 17, 12, 12 and 15 darts. Smith hit two 180s, took out a 90 finish, averaging 100.21, winning legs in 14, 12 and 18 darts.

Nathan Aspinall defeats former World Champ with a title winning 170 checkout

27-year-old Nathan Aspinall produced a tournament winning 170 checkout to beat Rob Cross 11-5 in the final of the Ladbrokes UK Open at Butlins in Minehead this evening. Aspinall hit two 180s and also had a checkout of 77 as he averaged 88.72. Cross showed flashes of good form including eight 180s and two finishes of 81. Aspinall showed great determination to pick up his first win against Cross in four attempts, winning his second PDC Pro Tour title.

Cross records a tenth victory over Michael Smith to move into UK Open final.

Rob Cross moved into his first final of 2019 with an 11-7 victory over Michael Smith in the Ladbrokes UK Open at Butlins in Minehead this evening. It was a tenth win against Smith in thirteen clashes on the PDC circuit. Cross took control early on by winning the opening three legs and never looked back, taking out finishes of 146, 127 and 120, hitting six 180s and averaging 94.45

Cross defeats Payne to move into UK Open semis

'Voltage' came through 10-7 against Josh Payne in the quarter-finals of the Ladbrokes UK Open at Butlins in Minehead this afternoon, hitting five maximums and taking out a 97 finish. Cross was never behind in the match as he produced a solid display, averaging 95.02. Payne put up a good effort as he notched four 180s, had a checkout of 70 and averaged 97.34

Cross moves into the quarters with a win over Reyes

Rob Cross progressed to his second UK Open quarter-final at Butlins in Minehead this evening with a 10-6 win against Cristo Reyes. 'Voltage' came from 3-0 down to win the match, hitting four 180s and taking out a match winning 134 finish (T18, T16, D16). The former Electrician recorded an average of 92.52 with winning legs of 15, 15, 21, 23, 17, 13, 14, 16, 14 and 15 darts.

Cross gets the beter of Mervyn King as he moves into last sixteen in Minehead

Rob Cross averaged 97.09 as he beat Mervyn King 10-5 in the fifth round of the Ladbrokes UK Open this afternoon at Butlins in Minehead by taking out a match winning 143 finish. The Hastings man hit six 180s on the way to a place in the last sixteen and also took out a 126 finish and was never behind in the match. King hit four 180s, checked out a 126 finish and averaged 93.84

Cross moves into last thirty-two with a good UK Open win against Darren Webster

Voltage put in an impressive display in beating Darren Webster in the fourth round of the Ladbrokes UK Open at Butlins in Minehead this evening. Winning the opening four legs in 15, 11, 11 and 12 darts was top class. Cross went on to lead 7-0 then took three of the next seven legs (including another 11 darter) for a 10-4 win and a place in the last 32. Cross hit five 180s in the match as well as checkouts of 114, 96, 82, 81, 79 and 78.

Voltage lights up Westpoint stage with thrilling defeat of Daryl Gurney

Rob Cross got his Unibet Premier League campaign back on track with an excellent 7-1 victory over Daryl Gurney this evening at the Westpoint in Exeter. The win included three maximums and a 153 finish from Voltage as he averaged 102.16 Michael van Gerwen suffered a defeat at the hands of James Wade leaving Cross just a point off top spot although only two points now seperate the top six as they move on to Aberdeen next week.

Polish Eagle swoops in to beat Cross as Price wins another title

Rob Cross was defeated 6-2 in the third round of Players Championship 6 at the Metrodome in Barnsley this afternoon by Krzysztof Ratajski in a match that saw both players record decent averages. In the opening two rounds Cross beat Robert Owen 6-0 and Arron Monk 6-4. Ratajski went on to lose in the fourth round against eventual finalist Ricky Evans. Gerwyn Price made it back-to-back titles by beating Evans 8-4 in the final.

Chizzy ends Cross' progress in Players Championship 5 as Price wins title

Rob Cross made the fourth round of Players Championship 5 at the Metrodome in Barnsley this afternoon. Following wins against Dirk van Duijenbode 6-5, Jose de Sousa 6-4 and Josh Payne 6-3 it was Dave Chisnall that halted the world number two's progress for the second time in a fortnight with a 6-5 result. Chizzy went on to make the semi-finals where he was defeated by eventual title winner Gerwyn Price.

Comfortable win for Van Gerwen in Dublin as Cross under performs

Rob Cross put in a frustrating display as he was almost whitewashed by Michael van Gerwen in the Unibet Premier League at the 3Arena in Dublin this evening. MvG missed two darts at double four for a 7-0 victory in a match that saw Cross fail to settle. To his credit Cross came back to win two legs before the world number one sealed victory. Cross makes semi-finals as Durrant wins his first PDC title in Wigan

Once again Rob Cross performed well as he made the semi-finals of Players Championship 4 at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan this afternoon. Wins against Marko Kantele 6-4, Robert Owen 6-2, Alan Tabern 6-1, Jonny Clayton 6-3 and Kyle Anderson 6-2 set up a last four tie against Dimitri Van den Bergh. In a decent match the Belgian came through 7-5. Glen Durrant went on to beat Van den Bergh 8-3 in the final to claim his first PDC title. Further details to follow.

'Highlander' strikes down Cross in Wigan as MvG claims another title

Rob Cross continued his good form at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan this afternoon despite a third round exit in Players Championship 3. Cross scraped through the opening round with a 6-5 win against Yordi Meeuwisse then averaged 107.87 in a 6-3 beating of Ryan Harrington. In the third round John Henderson came from 5-3 down to win 6-5 and deny Cross a place in the last sixteen. Michael van Gerwen beat Ian White 8-5 in the final. Further are here.

Great fightback from Voltage as he beats stablemate James Wade in Glasgow

Rob Cross fought back from 3-1 down to beat James Wade 7-4 at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow on night two of the 2019 Unibet Premier League. Cross hit four 180s, took out finishes of 115, 85, 78 and 72 as he won legs in 15, 15, 13, 11, 12, 15 and 15 darts, averaging 102.58... Further details here.

Cross in good form despite a quarter-final defeat against Chizzy

Rob Cross was in good form in Players Championship 2 at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan this afternoon. The 2018 World Champion beat Ross Smith 6-2 with a 108.61 average, Jamie Lewis 6-3 with a 104.47 average and Ryan Joyce 6-2 with a 98.19 average before losing out 6-4 to Dave Chisnall in the last sixteen with a 90.86 average. Early exit for Voltage as Michael van Gerwen claims opening Players Championship title

PDC newcomer.Scott Baker got the better of Rob Cross in the second round of Players Championship 1 at the Robin Park Tennis Centre in Wigan this afternoon. Cross beat Davy van Baelen 6-4 in the opening round with a 99.13 average before being defeated by Baker by the same scoreline despite averaging 99.96 - Baker went onto make the semi-finals where he lost out to eventual winner Michael van Gerwen. MvG defeated Jermaine Wattimena 8-4 in the final. Further details are here.

Cross picks up a point on Premier League opening night in Newcastle

Rob Cross averaged 103.57 as he drew 6-6 with Peter Wright on the opening night of the 2019 Unibet Premier League at the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. The former World Champion made a decent start to the match as he lead 3-1 with winning legs of 15, 10 and 13 darts. Wright fought back well as he took the next three legs in 14, 11 and 15 darts to lead 4-3 and from there both players held their throw in an entertaining match. Full report is here.

Premier League 'Contenders' to replace injured Anderson

Nine new names will replace Gary Anderson in the 2019 Unibet Premier League including three-time BDO world champion Glen Durrant. Nathan Aspinall, Chris Dobey, Luke Humphries, Jeffrey de Zwaan, Steve Lennon, Dimitri Van den Berg, John Henderson and Max Hopp will also get the opportunity to play in front of some big crowds, gaining valuable experience. More info here.

Gary Anderson withdraws from Premier League with back injury

World number four Gary Anderson has withdrawn from the 2019 Unibet Premier League due to a back injury. Anderson who missed the BetVictor Masters at the weekend has been undergoing treatment on his back since he exited the William Hill World Championship at the end of December. His physio has advised him to rest for a few weeks to reduce the likelihood of suffering repeated problems. More info here.

Joe Cullen beats Rob Cross in BetVictor Masters in Milton Keynes as MvG claims a fifth title

Joe Cullen beat Rob Cross 10-6 in the first round of the BetVictor World Matchplay at the Marshall Arena in Milton Kenes on Saturday night.

 

Micael van Gerwen won the title for the fifth year running, beating James Wade 11-5 in the final on Sunday night,
