Rob Cross was seeded 11th for Players Championship 18 in Barnsley and opened up with a 6-3 win against Wayne Jones. This was a landmark victory for Cross, his 100th since joining the PDC Pro Tour at the start of the year.

 

Cross's run came to an end in the second round where Chris Quantock was in outstanding form, hitting six maximums, taking out a 170 finish and averaging 106.59.

 

Quantock opened up the match by firing in his first maximum with his first throw of the opening leg and hitting double top for a 15 darter.

 

Cross levelled in 16 darts and then broke throw to go 2-1 up with a 15 darter. The Yorkshire man responded by scoring 121, 100, 180 and taking out 100 in a 11 dart leg to level at 2-2. He then hit back-to-back 180's to start off leg five and finish off by hitting double sixteen for a 13 darter to lead 3-2.

 

Quantock then finished the next three legs in 14, 12 and 16 darts to claim the match and advance into the last 32. The 170 finish coming in the 12 dart leg with Cross waiting on 161 after throwing nine darts.

 

Cross hit one maximum and averaged 88.18.

 

Quantock went on to beat Adam Hunt 6-5 in the third round but then lost 6-3 against William O'Connor in the last 16.

 

Dave Chisnall beat Richard North 6-5 in the final.

 

Cross won £500 in prize money bringing his total for the year to £81,750.
