1st April 2017

Players Championship 5 (Milton Keynes)

Rob Cross made it to the last 16 of Players Championship 5 in Milton Keynes, losing out to Ian White for the second time in three weeks. In today's match against White, Cross averaged 95.09 hitting two 180's and a high checkout of 76. This followed wins against Lee Bryant 6-2, Kim Huybrechts 6-4 and Scott Taylor 6-2. 

2nd April 2017

Players Championship 6 (Milton Keynes)

Rob Cross lost out to Gerwyn Price 6-3 in the last 32 of Players Championship 6 in Milton Keynes. Cross won his First Round match against Jonathan Worsley 6-5. In the Second Round, Rob hit checkouts of 154 and 140 in a 6-2 win against Kyle Anderson.

Euro Tour 3 - UK Qualifier (Barnsley)

Rob Cross qualified for the HappyBet German Darts Open with three victories in the UK Qualifier in Barnsley. This was the first PDC European Tour event that Cross has qualified for having just missed out on two previous occasions, losing board finals in both. In his opening match Cross beat Ricky Evans 6-1 then followed that with a 6-1 win against William O'Connor and a 6-5 win against Johnny Clayton.

Players Championship 7 (Barnsley)

Rob Cross lost out in the opening round of Players Championship 7 in Barnsley, going down 6-4 to Ronny Huybrechts.

9th April 2017

Players Championship 8 (Barnsley)

Rob Cross reached the last 32 of Players Championship 8 in Barnsley losing out to Robert Thornton 6-4. In his opening match Cross averaged 95.26 in a 6-4 win against former world youth champion Keegan Brown, hitting two maximums and a high checkout of 92 then in the Second Round, Cross won by the same score against Benito van de Pas.

Euro Tour 3 - HappyBet German Open (Saarbruecken, Germany)

Rob Cross made it all the way to the Quarter-Finals of his first European Tour event, The Happybet German Open in Saarbruecken, Germany,

 

A comfortably 6-1 victory in the First Round against Jeffrey de Graaf got things off to a great start. The first two legs were won against the throw with Rob taking out the first in 17 darts with a 25 checkout (9, D8). Cross then reeled off the final five legs against his Dutch opponent with legs of 14, 17, 15, 14 and 15 darts. Cross hit two 180s, a high outshot of 105 (19, T18, D16) and an average of 95.54.

 

In the Second Round Cross defeated Michael Smith 6-2. Michael made a lightning quick start in the opening leg, kicking off with scores of 100, 180, 180 but poor finishing let him down as Cross having also hit a 180 checked out on double 4 for an 18 darter against the throw. Cross followed that by starting the second leg with another maximum and taking out double top for a 14 dart leg to extend his lead to 2-0. Smith then hit his third 180 on the way to a 16 dart third leg before Cross took out double 8 for a 19 dart leg to re-establish a two leg lead. Cross then had his best leg of 13 darts, finishing on double 16 and followed it with an 18 dart leg to lead 5-1. Smith fought back by taking the seventh leg in 18 darts before Cross closed out the match with an 17 dart eighth leg that included his third 180 of the match to take the win. Cross averaged 91.91.

 

Cross then defeated former World Championship finalist Simon Whitlock 6-3 in the Third Round. .

Cross raced into a 3-0 lead with a 16 dart opening leg and then took out 124 (T20, 14, Bull) for a 12 dart second leg. The third leg was won in 16 darts with a double top finish. Whitlock then took the next three legs to level at 3-3 finishing in 14, 11 and 14 darts that included a 92 finish. Cross took out double 3 for a 17 dart seventh leg followed by two 15 dart legs to claim victory. Cross hit two 180's in the match and averaged 101.34.

 

Benito van de Pas produced some clinical finishing in the Quarter-Finals as he beat Cross 6-2. Cross was unable to match his excellent form from his earlier victory against Simon Whitlock as Van de Pas hit checkouts of 85, 48, 134, 67, 50 and 20 in winning legs of 15, 14, 15, 15, 15 and 14 darts. Cross hit an 83 finish in the third leg finishing on bull having lost the opening two legs. The Hastings man's other winning leg was the fifth of the match with a 64 finish. Cross averaged 89.97 compared to Van de Pas's 103.79.

Euro Tour 4 - UK Qualifier (Wigan)

Rob Cross continued his excellent form on the PDC Tour in Wigan this evening by qualifying for his second European Tour event. A 6-3 victory against Steve Hine in the Preliminary Round of the Euro Tour 4 UK Qualifier was his 50th win since joining the PDC Tour at the beginning of the year. Further wins against Paul Harvey 6-0 and Tony Newell 6-3 have earned Cross a place in the HappyBet European Darts Grand Prix that takes place in Sindelfingen, Germany next weekend (5th May - 7th May).

Euro Tour 5 - UK Qualifier (Wigan)

Cross qualified for his third PDC European Tour event with 6-4 victories in Wigan this evening against Keegan Brown and Jamie Bain, earning him a place in the Gibraltar Darts Trophy to be played from 12th - 14th May.

Players Championship 9 (Wigan)

Rob Cross reached the last 32 of Players Championship 9 in Wigan where he lost out to Jonny Clayton 6-5.

 

In the opening round Cross beat number eight seed Kim Huybrechts with a 6-5 victory taking out finishes of 100, 72, 40, 66, 74 and 52 in a tightly fought match. The opening three legs went against throw leaving Kim 2-1 up. The Belgian then held throw to increase his advantage to 3-1. Throw was then held until Cross broke back to make it 4-4. Cross then held throw to go 5-4 up and scored 177, 100 and 140 in the tenth leg only for Kim to take out 121 on the bull for a 12 darter to take the match into a decider. A 52 finish from Cross sealed the victory with Kim left on 91.

 

Cross then defeated Jamie Lewis 6-5 in the Second Round to earn his place in the last 32.

 

Rob won £1,000 prize money to bring his total for the year upto £33,250.

Players Championship 10 (Wigan) 

After early success on his maiden year on the PDC Pro Tour Rob Cross was seeded number 32 for Players Championship 10 and started with a 6-0 win against Lee Bryant and a 6-4 win against Mick McGowan.

 

In the Third Round Cross was up against world number one Michael van Gerwen. The opening six legs went with throw. MvG won the bull up and the opening leg with a 16 darter before Cross levelled in 14. The dutchman finished the third leg in 18 darts to go 2-1 up before Cross checked out on 84 (T5, T19, D6) to complete a 12 dart leg to draw level. Van Gerwen also took 12 darts to finish the fifth leg, taking out 90 then Rob levelled with a 16 dart sixth leg. Cross then broke throw in the seventh leg, hitting double 8 for a 13 darter after Van Gerwen had missed one dart at double top. Van Gerwen then broke back immediately to level at 4-4 with a 15 dart leg before starting the ninth leg with seven perfect darts and hitting double sixteen for a 10 darter to go 5-4 up. Cross then took the match into a decider by completing the tenth leg in 14 darts. Van Gerwen won the deciding leg with scores of 140, 140, 180 and finishing off with 41 in three darts for a twelve darter with Cross left on 161. Cross hit three maximums and averaged 104.49, Van Gerwen averaged 106.93, hitting seven maximums.

 

Cross won £1,000 prize money to bring his total for the year upto £34,250.
