Rob Cross opened up Players Championship 4 at the Barnsley Metrodome with a 6-2 win over Chris Dobey then in the last sixty-four some sharp finishing from Adam Hunt saw the world champion bow out 6-4.

 

Last 128 (vs Chris Dobey)

Rob Cross, seeded number two faced a tough opening round opponent, Chris Dobey. It took both players a while to get going as the opening two legs were shared. Cross won the opener by poking home double five in a 21 dart leg. Dobey won the second in 17 darts. Cross then took out 110 to win the third leg in 15 darts and extended his lead to 3-1 with a 13 darter. Dobey then checked out on 52 for a 14 darter. 'Voltage' responded by winning the next two legs in 13 and 15 darts and clinched the match with a 12 darter, scoring 140, 100, 180 and checking out on 81. That was Cross' only 180 of te match, he averaged 98.52. Dobey hit five 180s and averaged 96.73 

 

Last 64 (vs Adam Hunt)

Adam Hunt made it to the last 64 with a 6-5 win over Steve Lennon, taking out a 106 finish and averaging 87.69. Lennon took out 89, hit two 180s and averaged 93.42

 

This was the first meeting between Cross and Hunt on the PDC Pro Tour. Hunt held throw in the opening leg, hitting double eighteen for a 16 darter. He then took out 106 and 104 in the next two legs to go 3-0 up. Cross got on the scoresheet with an 18 darter in the next then Hunt produced a 12 dart leg with scores of 137, 85, 180 and a 99 finish to lead 4-1. Cross stormed back with an 11 darter, scoring 140, 174, 99 and checking out on 88. Hunt made it 5-2 with a 17 dart leg, taking out 60 then Cross fought back by taking the next two legs with finishes of 74 and 116, both legs were 15 darters. With Hunt leading 5-4 he missed a dart at double sixteen giving Cross the opportunity to level the match, a missed dart at double twelve and two at double six allowed Hunt another chance to close out the match 6-4, this time he fired home the winning double at the second opportunity to win it in 17 darts. Cross hit three 180's and averaged 98.83, Hunt hit just the one 180 and averaged 93.55  

 

Hunt went on to beat Jimmy Hendriks 6-1 before losing out to Cross' stablemate Stephen Bunting 6-0 in the last 16.

 

Gary Anderson was the overall winner for the second day running. This time beating Jeffrey de Zwaan 6-2 in the final.
